Promoting Musky Fishing in Pennsylvania
Nittany Valley Musky Alliance Chapter 64 works the the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission muskie stocking program by contributing funds (minnow fund) to assist with the spawning, rearing and stocking of muskies across the state. This is necessary because most of Pennsylvania’s muskie population does not naturally reproduce and is almost entirely supported through stocking programs.
The goal of the muskellunge management program is to identify and rehabilitate where practical, natural reproducing populations of muskellunge in Pennsylvania and, through the efficient and effective use of hatchery culture techniques, stocking practices, regulations, and angler involvement, provide high quality angling opportunities for these popular sportfish.
NVMA donates $3000 per year to the minnow fund for the Linesville State Fish Hatchery to help enhance the PA musky management plan and also reduce the financial burden that raising musky often incures.
Thanks to a Becker Grant of $7500 and cooperation from the PA Fish & Boat Commission, NVMA was successful in stocking purebred musky fingerlings at Curwensville Lake in October 2019 with an additional commitment to stock again in 2021.
We are also planning to stock Yellow Creek lake in October 2020 thanks to an $8000 commitment from our Fish Fund.
